Icarus'  Descent
Steve Harris
1/28/08

Hey there pretty girl
Walking beside me
taking my hand
Hey there pretty girl
I think you understand

I kinda like this feeling
But isn't anything new.

I flew too close to the sun
burnt off my wings.
Now I am falling too fast
someone catch me before I crash

Hey there pretty girl
sitting beside me
just hanging out watching t.v.
Hey there pretty girl
I think you're beginning to see

I kinda like this feeling
But isn't anything new.

I flew too close to the sun
burnt off my wings.
Now I am falling too fast
someone catch me before I crash

flew too close to the sun
burnt off our wings. (my wings)
Now We are falling too fast
someone catch us before we crash (Before we crash)

So this piece is a total country song in my head,  all accoustic, with banjo twang and violin,  I wrote it about a man who finally leaves his abusive wife.   After she has ruined his life and wrecked his credibility he wakes up and has a fresh outlook... but still needs a little closure to his life.

Hey Hey December

Steve Harris
02/12/07

The world is asleep
under a blanket of white
I love the tears you weep
This cold snowy night

The love you said to me
That you said was so strong
The marriage vows you took
Are long long gone

Hey Hey
You took it all away
Hey Hey
You begged to stay
Hey Hey
You had your chance
Hey Hey
You had me in a trance

The world is waking
to a beautiful morning
I hope your heart is breaking
And it comes without warning

that

The love you gave to me
That you said was so strong
The vows you took
Are long, long, gone

Hey  Hey
You threw it all away
Hey Hey
You didn't want to stay
Hey Hey
You had a chance
Hey Hey
I'm no longer in your trance

Hey Hey
Hey Hey
Hey Hey
Hey Hey

The strange one
-------------------
11/8/07
Steve Harris

Somewhere in the dark
Someone calls my name
I wish that it was you
Somehow it just ain't the same
I hear them talk about me
The strange one in the halls
I know what they say to you
The rumors that go around
I end up feeling so small

To hear you... To hear you...

You say the same things
Cut me down Tear me down
Chase after me damn you
Track me down hunt me down
I just want you to know
I don't want you to let me go

Somewhere in the light
Someone calls my name
I'm glad it isn't you
Somehow it just ain't the same
I hear them talk about me
The strange one in the halls
I know what they say to you
The rumors that go around
I end up feeling so small

To hear you... To hear you...

Say the same things
You Cut me down Tore me down
Just leave me alone damn you
Tracked me down hunted me down
I just want you to know
I don't want you; so let me go

To hear you (I don't want you)
To hear you (So let me go)

So let me go...
So let me..
let me go.

I hope this isn't considered spamming - I'm not involved with this contest at all but I really think some of the lyrics here are cool and I saw this to pass on: http://thenextholidayclassic.com/

The Next Holiday Classic is a free internet song contest that is not about songs that are "cutting edge" but rather songs that may stand the "test of time." You are invited to submit holiday song entries and compete for a Grand Prize award of $1500 as well as the opportunity to be presented to major label recording artists for inclusion on their 2008 holiday projects. Each week beginning November 25, 2007 online voters will determine which songs will advance to the finals, to be held the week of December 16, 2007. The Next Holiday Classic winners will then be announced December 24, 2007.

My Son
Don't be afraid
They are only coming
To lead you to your grave

The smoke on the water
It weren't so fresh

The darkness is closing in
I see the end coming soon
I can fix that easy enough
takin another balloon

Oh No.
Oh no

don't be afraid
My daughter
They are only coming
to take you off to slaughter

The smoke on the water
It weren't so fresh

That pink elephant
full of cotton candy
just another taste
just gettin greedy

Yes, folks, my first ever live video footage available for viewing at www.myspace.com/eyelidsofdawn. From there you can sign up for the e-newsletter so you won't miss out on a thing. It will be like the spam you always look forward to, like a puppy or a chocolate chip cookie clogging your inbox, only messier and slightly less soothing.

Lyrics to the second song-- "Vow of Silence"(a brand new one)-- behind the cut.

Vow of Silence

V
Your eyes they always look vacant
Since you gave up on the promise of speech
I guess I should have waited
I just wanted to hear you say you love me
I should have honored the silence
On the porch with you the sun going down
The people inside were laughing
The fireflies, the crickets so loud
C
So can you find me devoid of images?
Can you remind me the day we woke from our sillhouettes?
Be kind to me and let me enter your stillness
Wipe my mind clean, how you've done- I'm jealous
V
I'm moving into the guest room
I still love you with what's left of my soul
Remember what you first said
That first night how two halves make a whole
So maybe silence is golden
You disappear into the space between thoughts
But what's a world without love
We're only human sometimes we need to talk
C
So can you find me devoid of images?
Can you remind me the day we woke from our sillhouettes?
Be kind to me and let me enter your stillness
Wipe my mind clean, how you've done- I'm jealous
B
United by
Long walks, the maple leaves on the ground
Divided by
The space between the thoughts you've cleaned out
A simple twist
we both seek the subtle inflection
So consider this--
I'm not weak, like you I seek a state of no mind
So come to me
In memories we seek our perfection
But we're not free
Till we believe that love can make us divine
C
So can you find me devoid of images?
Can you remind me the day we woke from our sillhouettes?
Be kind to me and let me enter your stillness
Wipe my mind clean, how you've done- I'm jealous

Poisoned
--------

You aint so kind sometimes
nothing to gain
nothing to explain

I sit at this bar and drink
Drown this pain
Going round the drain

Your fear grips me tight
something inside isnt right
You search for something to say
I don't want you to find the way

This town grows cold
Our love is stained
Nothing to retain

Running away to somewhere
Inject to the vein
Escape the pain

Your fear grips me tight
something inside aint right
you search for something to say
to hold onto me for one more day

Current Music: Strange Relationship - Darren Hayes

02 August 2007 @ 04:01 pm
A lot of times it's the less positive moments in a relationship that can make the relationship that much stronger once everything is worked out. To admit when you're right isn't that great of an accomplishment, but to admit when you're wrong takes the prize. Admitting and then apologizing is the strength because, as one of my favorite singers by the name of John Cowan sings: "Pride ain't your friend when you lose everything."

I'm sorry

So many things to say to you
when I had nothing more to say.
I just stood back - took in the view
'cause while beside you, I was feeling miles away.

Just another night that hit me wrong,
but I know that doesn't make me right.
Yet I never said that I was strong,
and with weakness calling, I just don't have strength to fight.

Yet only fools will make excuses,
and maybe that's not quite what I am,
but I would be a fool if I don't admit,
I've got some choices that I still damn...
within me.
I'm sorry.

Playing keys brings peace of mind,
and I guess that's why I'm here right now.
Funny how a song's not hard to find.
It may start aimless, but it finds its way somehow.

Maybe I can get myself on through,
say the things I should've said before.
I'm not perfect, and nor are you,
but it doesn't matter - I know weren't not keeping score.

And only fools will make excuses.
Maybe that's not quite what I am,
but I would be a fool if I don't admit
I've got some choices that I still damn...
within me.
I'm sorry.

This song has been a labor of love and frustration for the past 6 months. I have periodically come back to it, but never knew quite where I was going with it. Now I realize the song wasn't ready because I wasn't ready yet. Now that I am on the other end of the tunnel, it came to me freely.
It is dedicated to all of those who where there for me last winter & spring, with special thanks to the one whose words inspired me (and who allowed me to use them).
